Celebrities told in black & white…. Introduction by Tilda Swinton.

ISBN: 978 88 89431 57 3

After working for several years in a gallery on Bond Street in London, Johnnie Shand Kydd begins to take photographs portraying characters belonging to his circle of friends. As a photographer and lively observer, he participates in the growth and success of English art of the 1990's, capturing images of protagonists of the Young British Art scene. Thanks to his camera, Shand Kydd documents, sometimes accidentally, sometimes through a conscious game with the lens, familiar faces and faces of famous friends, all told in strict black & white. In Crash, Shand Kydd goes into the portrait's theme and technique, refining them through a straightforward and confident approach and his subject's familiarity and unaffected collaboration. He offers us an amazing and novel collection of about two hundred exposures.
Among the portraits: Maurizio Cattelan, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Larry Clark, Francesco Clemente, Jeremy Deller, Tracey Emin, Bella Freud, Anya Gallaccio, Gilbert & George, Nan Goldin, Douglas Gordon, Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Jay Jopling, Anish Kapoor, Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Koons, David LaChapelle, Sarah Lucas, Stella McCartney, Chris Ofili, Luigi Ontani, Gabriel Orozco, Grayson Perry, Marc Quinn, Jenny Saville, Cindy Sherman, Tilda Swinton, Sam Taylor-Wood, Juergen Teller, Mario Testino, Wolfgang Tillmans, Jeff Wall, Rachel Whiteread.
