Education, growing up, the time elapsed between the beginning and end of adolescence, between the beginning and end of the school year. Bildung collects forty double portraits of young boys and girls, all made by Paola di Bello, a teacher and photographer, who writes: "For several years I taught Photography at various technical schools in the suburbs of Milan, where I used to take pictures of my students on the first day of classes - when the teacher introduces him or herself to the class - and at the end of the school year, right after the school-leaving examination. Each dyptich shows a student on his/her first and last day at school, spanning a period of three to five years."

Paola Di Bello (1961) is an artist, photographer and videomaker. She teaches Photography at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Brera, in Milan. Her works have been exhibited in various shows, both in Italy and abroad, such as the 2003 Venice Biennial and the 2006 Korean Biennial.
